Key Features of Arooj 21
Arooj-22 Wheat Variety
Arooj-22 is a high-performance wheat variety developed by the Wheat Research Institute (WRI) in Pakistan for both irrigated and rainfed areas of Punjab. It was selected from the Semi-Arid Wheat Yield Trial (SAWYT) conducted by CIMMYT, Mexico, and has undergone extensive evaluation for yield stability in various agronomic trials.
This variety is notable for its high yield potential, disease resistance, and overall crop health. Arooj-22 demonstrates strong tolerance to rust, lodging, and heat stress—making it particularly well-suited for the climatic challenges of the region.
Key Characteristics:
- Spike initiation: 80–90 days after sowing
- Yield potential: 55–60 maunds per acre under farmer field conditions
- Adaptability: Suitable for both irrigated and rainfed areas
- Strengths: Resistance to rust diseases, heat tolerance, and lodging resistance
