Key Features of MH-21
MH-21 Wheat Variety Overview
MH-21 exhibits an amber seed color and a semi-erect growth habit at booting. It has an erect flag leaf attitude, hairy auricles, and an awned, yellowish ear. The glumes display an elevated shoulder and beak shape. DNA fingerprinting was conducted to compare MH-21’s genetic background with 21 previously registered wheat varieties. Owing to its stable and promising performance across multiple locations over the years—particularly in terms of grain yield, nutritional quality, and resistance to rust diseases—the Punjab Seed Council approved the variety (initially labeled V12304) in 2021 under the name ‘MH-21’ for general cultivation in irrigated areas of Punjab, Pakistan. Its maximum yield potential is estimated at 55–60 mounds per acre.
